Research Background

With the headquarters in Lille, the new branch in Paris was to be a company’s forefront to help recruit a growing team.

The quality of a workplace is of particular importance to tech startups. As per the design brief, the new space should be highly flexible to enable seamless workplace use, considering the changing day-to-day environment.

Through all stages of the design and construction process, several topics were particularly examined:

  • How to create a flexible workplace that meets the dynamic needs of a tech startup.
  • How to create a space that meets the requirements of a variable number of users during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic.
  • How to overcome low ceiling height's spatial limitations and implement the lighting design.
  • How to create an attractive and enjoyable workplace and apply the company’s brand elements.
  • How to ensure efficient remote construction supervision and quality control of the production of the custom-designed objects.
Research Contribution

In extremely challenging conditions during the initial stages of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, with the design brief and spatial programming in flux, the existing, traditional design methods were re-examined and changed. The flexibility of a workplace had to be redefined as a concept to incorporate a variable number of users on a daily level alongside other novel and external conditions around work and work-related activities. Systems and future thinking  methods were applied and tested through design iterations and live modelling from real-life scenarios and day-to-day reality.
Research Significance

The work was selected for publication and presentation at the peer-reviewed international conference On Architecture - Philosophy of Architecture in Belgrade, Serbia, in 2022.

The work was selected for international exhibition 23rd Salon of Architecture Novi Sad by the Association of Novi Sad Architects (DANS) in Novi Sad, Serbia, in 2022.
